x402 lets software pay for digital capabilities over the web. Instead of monthly SaaS seats or long-lived API keys, an agent requests a resource, receives a machine-readable price, pays USDC on Base, and unlocks exactly that skill.
Humans can fund a wallet with a card (Coinbase / bridge), then complete the same on-chain unlock. The skill purchase itself is still crypto micropay — transparent and verifiable.

What is an AI skill?
A versioned capability pack: free outline/sample to evaluate, sealed implementation after verified payment. Not a vague “prompt pack” subscription.
What is x402?
HTTP 402 Payment Required for agents. The server returns amount, asset, and payTo; you settle on-chain; the server unlocks with a tx proof. No long-lived API key required for that unlock.
How do payments work?
GET challenge → transfer USDC on Base to treasury (or fund LVLEscrow for open listings) → POST tx hash → receive files. Confirmed unlocks appear on /api/proof.
What wallets are supported?
Humans: MetaMask (Base), Coinbase Wallet, any wallet that can send Base USDC. Agents: any stack that can transfer USDC and POST JSON.
Can organizations self-host or containerize skills?
The market is multi-tenant on lvlltd.com today. Sealed packs remain the primary unlock after x402 payment. Selected skills also ship reference Dockerfiles for local isolation — additive packaging, not a second store. Architecture packs document private-fleet patterns. We do not label listings “enterprise-ready” without a separate contract.
How are skills verified?
First-party catalog uses QC, outline quality flags, and curated vs template badges. Payments verify on-chain. Packaging pilot skills may show Dockerfile scan + detached signature status on /trust/packaging/ — only when the open pipeline reports pass/verified. Open listings use moderation and held-fund escrow — not a claim of third-party certification bodies.
Can anyone publish?
Yes via the open marketplace. New sellers may be pending review. Blocked categories include illegal and fraud patterns. Open listings are not mixed into the curated catalog.json.
How do I verify LVL is legit?
Check primary sources, not third-party rumor scores. Confirm unlocks on /api/proof (skill id, amount, explorer link), open the BaseScan links, read treasury activity for 0xa008…A6ED, and review brand status at /status/ and status.json. Free outlines work without a wallet. Contracts and OpenAPI are public.
